New Christmas Game Appears On The eShop - But Only On Wii U, And In January

Launching almost as far away from the upcoming holiday season as is possible, a brand new Christmas-themed game has appeared on the Nintendo eShop today. If that wasn't bizarre enough, it's also skipping the Switch, favouring a release on the discontinued Wii U.
That's right, Seasonal Assistant, a title from indie developer Ultra Dolphin Revolution, is now available on the Wii U's digital store. As we highlighted towards the end of last year, the game is a spin-off from the studio's own Spellcaster’s Assistant and sees players taking on the role of Elfie as they head off on a quest to find the ultimate gift for a special friend.

I'm confused as to why it's being released on only the Wii U, since the console was discontinued four years ago. As for the release date, I'm guessing they were originally planning to release this last month, but it instead got delayed.

Some release on discontinued consoles just for the passion of it. The Dreamcast survived in Japan for years after Sega discontinued it purely off games Dreamcast fans made for it.

Very interesting! It's pretty cool that there are still developers releasing things on the Wii U. I like the idea of older consoles living for a long time.
